Citizens' Campaign
Law and Policy Task Force

gary_stein.jpg

The Law and Policy Task Force has developed a series of laws to counter the culture of corruption and open up our government and political parties to fresh leadership.

The Law and Policy Task Force is headed by former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Gary Stein (pictured left) and comprised of over 50 of the state's top legal minds, including former Counsels to Governor Kean and Byrne, managing partners in our state's leading law firms, and national experts on the constitution and campaign finance law.

The Task Force has a proven record of devising solutions that are constitutional and meet all other legal requirements. Its model laws have been adopted in over 200 New Jersey towns and at the state level in New Jersey, as well as in other states. The importance of upholding disclosure of corporate campaign spending was the subject of an amicus brief submitted by Gary Stein to the US Supreme Court in the recent Citizens United Case. We at the Citizens' Campaign were pleased that the court by an 8-1 margin agreed with Justice Stein's argument.

Academy for Citizen Empowerment (ACE)

The Academy for Citizen Empowerment, or ACE, is our educational arm, led by Michael Delli Carpini, Dean of the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania.

ACE's focus is adult leadership training. Free civic engagement classes are offered to citizens to inspire and teach them how to participate in the leadership of their community. The 4 classes we offer are taught by a 100 member volunteer Teachers Corps trained by the Academy. Classes are taught live throughout the state (see events page). In 2009 we launched our E-learning initiative and now classes are also available for free on demand on our web site.

A team of respected former political and governmental leaders, the ACE Coaches, has been assembled to help ACE graduates turn their ideas into constructive proposals and navigate the political seas towards implementation.

ACE is looking for volunteers to be trained to teach our classes and coaches to help assist graduates. To volunteer contact Aneil at 732-548-9798 x3 or aneil@jointhecampaign.com.
